Lauren Conrad’s new line Paper Crown might not have the publicity of an MTV reality show behind it, but it’s still chugging right along.
In fact, Conrad, who is on the cover of Lucky‘s July issue in a complete look from her new label, told the mag that she’s even glad her reality show was dropped. “It’s easier to launch the line without MTV,” she says. “A lot of people in fashion don’t want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down.” Plus, she concedes her life isn’t exactly MTV fodder anymore. “There weren’t any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what’s the point?” she told the mag.
Conrad seems bent on proving herself in the fashion world. She quietly showed her fall collection to buyers along with hundreds of other labels at Coterie this past February in a small booth with only her best friend and business partner in tow. She’s continuing to follow the fashion calendar, and will release her second collection for holiday.
“I kept fall very streamlined, and with the second season was able to introduce more novelty fabrications, trims and details,” Conrad told us. “We added a lot of texture and pretty details with velvets, laces, crinkle chiffon, petersham ribbons, custom gold buttons, etc.,–the lace pieces and rich floral print are really elegant and feminine, while the mini dresses and skirts are more flirty and youthful.”
She likes her holiday frocks so much she confessed she’s been stealing samples to wear to events.
“It’s exciting, because our first season was well received by both retailers and the public, and we are gearing up to promote the first deliveries to stores this summer,” she said. “Now a few seasons in, I am simply thrilled with the progression of the line.”
As with her first collection, there are many pieces to covet from holiday–mostly the simpler basics and especially a high waist maxi skirt with a big bow at the waist. She’s not the only Hills alum to put out a fashion line, but so far it seems she’s got the most promise.
