Lauren on Paper Crown & Her Canceled MTV Show: A Blessing in Disguise!

Lauren Conrad’s new line Paper Crown might not have the publicity of an MTV reality show behind it, but it’s still chugging right along.

In fact, Conrad, who is on the cover of Lucky‘s July issue in a complete look from her new label, told the mag that she’s even glad her reality show was dropped. “It’s easier to launch the line without MTV,” she says. “A lot of people in fashion don’t want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down.” Plus, she concedes her life isn’t exactly MTV fodder anymore. “There weren’t any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what’s the point?” she told the mag.

Conrad seems bent on proving herself in the fashion world. She quietly showed her fall collection to buyers along with hundreds of other labels at Coterie this past February in a small booth with only her best friend and business partner in tow. She’s continuing to follow the fashion calendar, and will release her second collection for holiday.

“I kept fall very streamlined, and with the second season was able to introduce more novelty fabrications, trims and details,” Conrad told us. “We added a lot of texture and pretty details with velvets, laces, crinkle chiffon, petersham ribbons, custom gold buttons, etc.,–the lace pieces and rich floral print are really elegant and feminine, while the mini dresses and skirts are more flirty and youthful.”

She likes her holiday frocks so much she confessed she’s been stealing samples to wear to events.

“It’s exciting, because our first season was well received by both retailers and the public, and we are gearing up to promote the first deliveries to stores this summer,” she said. “Now a few seasons in, I am simply thrilled with the progression of the line.”

As with her first collection, there are many pieces to covet from holiday–mostly the simpler basics and especially a high waist maxi skirt with a big bow at the waist. She’s not the only Hills alum to put out a fashion line, but so far it seems she’s got the most promise.

Lauren's (Canceled) Reality Show Intro! Adorable!

-Video: TheSaraLisaa

I love this stop-action clip and think it's the perfect intro for what probably would have been an inspiring show! It's really sad MTV canceled Lauren's new reality show and I hope it gets picked up by another network! :-)

What do you think of this intro? Would you have watched Lauren's new show?

Watch here if the video doesn't work.

Lauren Conrad: Paper Crown, Canceled MTV Reality Show, and Feud Rumor

When I stopped by the Coterie yesterday to interview Lauren Conrad and check our her debut contemporary line, Paper Crown, I expected a crush of cameras, reporters and publicists. I expected that an overly protective publicist would monitor my interview to make sure I didn’t ask certain questions and that I wrapped it up after 10 minutes. So it was a pleasant surprise when I located Paper Crown’s modest booth at Pier 94 to find Conrad and her two business partners (also her two best friends–not Hills alums), just hanging out, listening to Billy Joel on an iPad, and not a paparazzo or crazed publicist in sight.

Of course, if MTV hadn’t dropped the reality show they were filming about Conrad’s new line, there would have been a 15-person camera crew crowding the space. “I was a little disappointed at first but I’m very much OK with it now,” said Conrad of her show being canceled. “[The show] was very different from The Hills–it was filmed like a documentary–it was a very different experience.” Now, she even seemed relieved there wasn’t a camera crew around to make everything crowded and chaotic. “Can you imagine if there were cameras here?” she said, looking around at Paper Crown’s small booth.

Sadly, the absence of camera crews means that there’s little hope Conrad’s show will make it to air on any network–because MTV stopped filming halfway through the design process. “It’s an incomplete story now,” Conrad said.

But back to the clothes. “We wanted the collection to look very clean and fresh–those are the pieces I gravitate towards,” Conrad told me as she walked me through Paper Crown, looking lovely in leather shorts, a blazer and blush blouse from the line. “When I was designing [the collection] I wanted to do pieces that could be worn lots of different ways–I think it’s nice to invest in pieces you can wear throughout a few seasons. It’s modern but not overly trendy. I wanted an overall romance feel to the line, balanced out with a couple tailored pieces for a slight menswear feel and the leather pieces to balance out the chiffons.”

With Paper Crown, Conrad has achieved what she set out to do: the compact collection (you can view the complete look book here) is full of on-trend basics like soft knits, silk button down blouses, tailored cropped pants and blazers, and faux-leather shorts and skirts balanced with loose airy chiffon dresses in blacks, blushes, creams, gray-blues and a few muted floral prints. It all looks like stuff Conrad would actually wear (or has already worn). “You’re keeping a customer in mind but you want to love each piece,” says Conrad. Her favorite is the tiered chiffon maxi-dress, which will retail at $400.

No word yet on where Paper Crown will be sold but Conrad and her team hope to be installed in small boutiques across the country as well as one big department store. Pricepoints range from $69 for jersey tops to $400 for dresses (like the tiered chiffon number).

Of course, we couldn’t leave without addressing one more rumor recently floating around the internet–a report from Us Magazine that Whitney Port was peeved at her former Hills co-star because “she thinks that The City was canceled to make room for Lauren’s new reality show…Whitney feels like she got the shaft.” “I don’t really know where that rumor came from,” Conrad said. “It didn’t even make sense though–why would she be jealous of that show that’s no longer happening?” It makes even less sense considering Whitney Port is the only member of the original Hills cast Conrad keeps in touch with. “I have so much respect from her–she’s amazing,” said Conrad, who had texted with Port about the rumor hours earlier.

Plugging away on her new project, Lauren Conrad was spotted out on Robertson Blvd in Los Angeles with pal Gary Samuelian (MTV's Styl'D) on Friday afternoon (December 10).

Lauren: Reality TV Ready with Amy Nadine

Hard at work on her new gig, Lauren Conrad was spotted filming scenes for her reality show 'Lauren Conrad: Fiercely Fashionable' in Los Angeles, CA on Thursday (November 11).
The former "Hills" hottie was joined by Amy Nadine, her make up artist and friend, as the pair wandered about a local park area with MTV cameras following each and every move.

Recently talking about her return to reality TV, LC said, "I’m excited to have greater control over things. I’m just happy to act as a producer and do things on my terms.”
Also chatting about having to make compromises due to her hectic schedule, Miss Conrad dished, "When you are working really hard and you’re really focused on your career, a lot of other things suffer. It takes a lot of effort to have a successful career, have great relationships in your life and have a healthy lifestyle. It’s just about compromise."
She added, “It helps if your friends and boyfriend like to work out because then you can kill two birds with one stone.”

Lauren Filming New Reality Show with Maura McManus

Making for quite the pleasant sight to her many fans, Lauren got to work on her new reality show in Westwood, California on Thursday (November 4) with one of her best friends, roommate and costar Maura McManus.

The former "Hills" star strutted along the city streets as the cameras rolled, then heading off for a lunch meeting at Bottega Louie Restaurant and Gourmet Market.

Lauren did inform us that the series "will be something very different" from The Hills, in that her personal life will not be a part of the show. She also said repeatedly on different TV shows that Kyle, her boyfriend, will not be part of her new gig.

Lauren's new reality tv show on MTV is rumored to be called 'Lauren Conrad: Fiercely Fashionable'. Love that name! Do you? :-)

The Filming Starts!

The MTV cameras will start filming for Lauren's new reality tv show next week! They will follow her signing hundreds of books for her fans at Barnes & Noble at the Mall of America Bloomington (MN) at 6:00 pm (Tuesday October 19th!). For all of you that are going, look your best and have fun! XO

US Weekly: "MTV Return"

Lauren recently stepped by KIIS FM to have a chat with Ryan Seacrest mainly about her new show. She'd said that she had enough of living the simple undocumented life and tells ET online her new reality show will be more like a documentary, "Which is nice" she says.

All the details remained slim... until now! Lauren opened up in the latest Us Weekly issue. Lauren's unnamed show will deliver an inside look at what it takes to build her own company. She has started her own fashion laber, Paper Crown, together with her oldest friends, Maura McManus (also her roommate) and Gary Samuelin (yes, the guy from MTV's "Styl'D"!). "These two I knew when I was wearing a training bra!" Lauren told Us. Lo won't be around for the show as she is super busy with thelodown.com and writing her own book.

Us Weekly asked if beau Kyle Howard will be around, "It's hard to say yet if he'll be on the show. Certain aspects of my relationship I want to keep to myself, but it's not like I'm going to stop myself from talking about him" she says.
Also, Lauren tells Us that this reality show will feel more real. "[In The Hills], PAs would hold back paparazzi so their shadows wouldn't get in the way. Now if a mic gets in the shot, it's no big deal."

Congratulations to you, Lauren! I will definitely watch, how about you all? XO
