'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' earns Rs 26.5 crores
Made at a budget of Rs.30 crore, which includes cost of production, print publicity and marketing, the Yash Raj Films' venture opened to 80-90 percent occupancy.
"'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' has had a good start. It opened with 90 percent occupancy and the content is quite appealing to youngsters. Even Monday has seen a good occupancy," a source from PVR said.
Directed by debutant Ali Abbas Zafar, the romantic comedy is set in an urban middle class family and deals with two brothers - Luv Agnihotri (Ali Zafar) and Kush Agnihotri (Imran).
"People are liking the movie as it is a very light-hearted film and has a different concept. Not only our weekend shows got good response, even Monday, which is a general a working day had houseful shows. Both Imran and Katrina have done a good job. Even Ali Zafar is good," said Puneet Sahay, senior manager for programming and operations at Spice Cinemas.
Yogesh Raizada of Waves Cinemas says it's a well-packaged drama.
"The response to the film is very good. It has opened up with 80 to 90 percent occupancy. All the actors Imran, Katrina and Ali have justified their characters. It is a family entertainer and has a mix of emotion, drama and comedy. Overall its a good product," said Raizada.
Cinema owners say the film is likely to be affected by Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer "Mausam" that releases Friday.
"With the release of 'Mausam', the film is likely to get affected as the shows will be less but we still expect "Mere Brother Ki Dulhan" to do well in the second week," said Sahay.
Raizada said: "The occupancy is likely to fall to to 40 percent to 50 percent."(Masala.com)
Facebook 'Smart Lists' For Friends Makes Organizing Your Contacts Easier
Well, Facebook aims to make life easier.
Beginning Wednesday, the social network will make it easier to share photos, posts and links with smaller, isolated groups of people. While the site has allowed users to separate their friends into lists since 2007, this option took quite a bit of work and only a small fraction of Facebook users took advantage of it.
Now, Facebook will automatically group your friends based on whether they live near you, went to your school or work with you. You can read posts or share updates with specific groups instead of dozens, or hundreds, of "friends" at a time. Facebook will use the colleges, workplaces and geographic locations that users share on the site to organize people into groups. Called "smart lists," the feature is optional to use, and the lists are customizable.
"Users don't really want to spend a lot of time creating and maintaining friend lists," said Naomi Gleit, the director of product at Facebook who worked on the feature.
In addition, you can create your own friend groups with as few or as many as you would like, based around hobbies, work projects or relatives, for example.
Listing people as "close friends," meanwhile, will ensure that you will see the posts and photos from the dozen or so friends you care about the most. Updates from these people will feature more prominently in your news feed and you can opt to receive email notifications every time they post something on Facebook, Gleit said.
Conversely, those categorized as "acquaintances" will feature less prominently on your Facebook page, and you will see just big news, such as marriages and new babies.
Facebook's latest move takes a page from Google Plus, the fledgling social network launched this summer by the online search leader. Google's service so far has not threatened to unseat Facebook as the world's biggest online social network. But its sleek design and innovative, privacy-focused features piqued the interest of many Facebook users and critics, helping to foster healthy competition among these Silicon Valley neighbors.

Four types of dengue reported in Pakistan
This was stated by Dr. Javed Akram, the Head of Jinnah Hospital Lahore and chairman of dengue expert committee.
Until date, officially more than 3,500 people have been infected and over a dozen have died from the recent dengue outbreak in Pakistan.
“These are the official figures but I think the number of unreported dengue patients is more than 500, 000,”Akram told Dawn.com.
Akram said that in the past they had warned the authorities about the worst possible outbreak of dengue fever in Pakistan but this time they seemed to have been too late. Next year, the epidemic will be even more catastrophic than it has been now, he added.
Akram, along with others contributed a research paper about the 2008 dengue outbreak study in two hospitals of Lahore. The paper was published in 2009 in the International Journal of Infectious Disease.
An estimated 100 million persons worldwide get infected with dengue annually, a resurging viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes aegyptii. In Pakistan Aedes aegyptii is mainly responsible for this disease.
Several hundred thousands of patients develop dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) — a more severe, usually fatal form in which bleeding and shock occurs.
A study of two outbreaks in Lahore in 2008, conducted on 110 patients from two hospitals, showed more than half of them had developed the more severe form which is now confirmed by the current dengue outbreak in Punjab.
Malik Asif Humayoun, then the head of the department of medicine at Allama Iqbal Medical College and the Jinnah Hospital, and his colleagues describe this increase in the more severe form as compared to previous years as alarming.
Four strains of the dengue virus circulate worldwide, including South Asia, and the fatal DHF form occurs when a previously infected and cured dengue patient gets re-infected again, usually with a different strain of the virus.
Two of these were reported in previous outbreaks in Karachi city, while a third has been reported in the Lahore outbreak of 2008. Now all four types of dengue serotypes have been confirmed in Punjab.
“There is urgent need to have a countrywide epidemiological survey for multiple dengue serotypes (strains),” said Humayoun.
There is also a need for larger clinical studies in Pakistan and other South Asian countries to better understand the range of infections, endemic patterns and genetic susceptibility of different populations to the dengue virus, the researchers concluded.Read more at Dawn.com
Keira Knightley Feels Lucky To Work With Wright Again
The actress is set to star in his new movie Anna Karenina, a third movie project that will have work on in recent years.
Wright made his directorial debut with Pride and Prejudice, in which Knightley played Elizabeth Bennett. She went on to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance.
The then teamed up again for the adaptation of Atonement, which also starred James McAvoy.And Knightley is pleased to be working with Wright again.
Speaking to the Press Association the actress said: "I'm very lucky. I'm about to start Anna Karenina with Joe in a week and we've done two other films and about three adverts together so it's like going back to family, it's lovely."
Knightley has been on the festival circuit promoting her new movie A Dangerous Method, which sees her work with director David Cronenberg and actors Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender.

Northern Lights actor Eddie and country music singer LeAnn wed in April this year. The couple share a lot with each other, including tips on what to wear when they are putting together outfits.
"I give her fashion advice all the time," Eddie told E! Online at Monique Lhuillier's recent runway show.
LeAnn does not snub her husband's suggestions. The pair embrace each other's tastes in clothes.
"We both have [given each other fashion advice]," LeAnn said. "I think if we get each other's approval, that's all that matters."
Eddie definitely approves of his wife's style sensibility. Although the media has been vocal about LeAnn's new look in recent months, Eddie does not see what all the fuss is about.
"I'm not sure why [LeAnn was being criticised for her looks]" Eddie said recently. "I think she looks great."

I will raise oomph factor with 'Housefull 2': Shazahn Padamsee
"My look in 'Housefull 2' is very glamorous. I think lots of people see me as young and cute, so in this film I am going to up the oomph factor little bit," Shazahan said at a programme of "Blenders Pride Fashion Tour 2011".
She will be seen opposite Shreyas Talpade in the Sajid Khan directed multi-starrer.
Shazahan made her debut opposite Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor with 2009 release "Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year". It was followed by "Dil To Baccha Hai Ji".
She has also acted in two South Indian films.

Starved dogs eat owner
A neighborhood guard was curious when he saw luggage lined up at the front of Andre Lumboga's house, days after the 50-year old arrived back home. He approached the house, smelled something foul and called the police, according to a report.
"His skull was found in the kitchen, and his body was found in the front of his house," Eriyana, a local police chief in Batam, an island off Sumatra, told VIVAnews website.
Lumboga arrived home last Wednesday, but his body was just discovered on Monday.
"We suspect that the dogs were hungry, so they attacked Andre, because they had not been fed for 14 days," he said. Police also found bones of two other dogs, believed to have also been eaten by the hungry canines.
Lumboga was from northern Sulawesi island, a predominantly Christian area, where the local spicy diet is famous in Indonesia for including dogs, bats and forest rats. (Reuters)
Madonna: Love requires compromise
Madonna has an 11-year-old son, Rocco Ritchie, and a daughter, Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon, who will turn 15 in October. She is also in a committed relationship with dancer Brahim Zaibat.
Following the release of her most recent directorial endeavour, W.E., at the Venice Film Festival, Madonna is in high spirits about her life.
' have all three; love, children and work. Lucky me,' Madonna said to British newspaper the Daily Mail. 'You can [have all three] - but what you can't then expect is a good night's sleep.'
Madonna has worked at finding equilibrium in her life for years. Balancing relationships, children and career is a sensitive task for the star, but Madonna believes that she has discovered a foolproof approach.
'The older I get, the more I understand about the nature of relationships and how to have a successful one,' Madonna explained. 'The more I realise that it has to do with compromise and sacrifice and that's just the way it goes. And unless you want to be alone for the rest of your life you have to realise that.'
Madonna is not willing to forfeit happiness for any reason. Career, family and love are equally important to the star.
'Either the kids aren't going to be getting all your attention, or the man isn't or the job isn't and I can't contemplate living without all three,' Madonna said. ' can't imagine not having children. I can't imagine not being in love and I can't imagine not being creative and doing the work I do.'
Compromise works well for Madonna. She loves all three aspects of her life so much that she is willing to be flexible to keep her clan happy and career moving forward.
