Mötley Crüe's 30th Anniversary and Poison's 25th Anniversary Summer Tour

Motley Crue and Poison are touring together through the United States this summer, with the New York Dolls as the opening act.  They come to Atlanta on Sunday July 10th.  Catch them at Lakewood!

Eric Dodd, Scotty Cram, David Bell at Smith’s - 3/12/11

This Saturday night (3/12/11), three GREAT musicians are taking over the Atlanta Room at Smith’s Olde Bar (www.smithsoldebar.com). Eric Dodd is a native of Lake Oconee and has shared the stage many times with Grammy award winner Zac Brown. Scotty Cram lives in Atlanta and says his influences are “Motown, Soul, Rock, all wrapped into one,” and that’s exactly what his sound is. He has a great, soulful voice that grabs your attention, and his passion for his music really shows. (p.s. – He sings a wicked cover of “Man in the Mirror.” How can you not love him?) David Bell is also a local musician who will complete this great lineup.

ALSO, it’s my awesome roommate’s BIRTHDAY! Come out and celebrate with us! She’s a loyal OMFG reader, supporter, and helper. We <3 her! Presents not necessary, but free drinks greatly appreciated!

Mo, Tiffany, Steph

Find us in the Atlanta Room, Saturday, 8:00pm, $8 (21 and up).

OM(usic)FG - Wesley Cook at The Vinyl - Feb 17

Wanna get “leid?” We can help with that. Fresh off a win at Hard Rock’s battle of the bands, Wesley Cook is bringing his full band to the Vinyl’s stage for a great show that is not to be missed!

Click on flyer for Facebook event page

Wesley started off with a solo acoustic album in 2005 and has come a long way since then. His most recent full-band album has a laid back, pop/beachy (is that even a category?) sound. Cue my Van Morrison reference and add some of O.A.R.’s bold, high-energy sound, and you’ve got Wesley Cook. He puts so much of his personality into each song, and you feel like you know exactly what he's singing about.

He has shared the stage with many great artists such as Drivin’ n’ Cryin, Zac Brown Band and Manchester Orchestra. In 2006, he was nominated for “Soloist of the year” in the Athens Music Awards, and he has appeared on MTV2 as an “Artist on the Rise.”

Some of my favorites from the cd are: Tasty Devil Woman, Home Grown Girl, and Sunrise Over Georgia. You can check out the cd New Ground at CDBaby.com, or click the picture below:

You can hear Wesley LIVE tomorrow night at Vinyl! Also on the bill: Christopher Alan Yates, and Patrick Scott. Doors at 7:30, $10 at the door. That's a bargain for some great music, plus you get a LEI! Just do it!

Here’s a video from Wesley’s 7/21/10 show at Hard Rock Café. Always a very enjoyable show!

OM(usic)FG - Paul Warner - "Deadly Waterparks"

picture from paulwarner.tv

It has been almost 3 years since I lived in Athens, and I’ve yet to find a singer/songwriter with that "Athens"  musical dynamic here in Atlanta. Well, that was until I heard Paul Warner’s latest cd “Deadly Waterparks.” This music reminds me of those good times in Athens when we would randomly walk into a small bar and hear a great singer/songwriter that just completely made our night.

The sound is a soothing mix of many instruments (including violin, pedal steel, saxophone, cello) and Paul’s smooth, effortless voice. The ballads are very Jeff Buckley-esque with lyrics that create vivid images in your mind and the faster alt/pop songs remind me very much of Broken Bells grooves that you can’t help but to grin while listening.

“Deadly Waterparks” is a great listen. I’ve listened through so many times I can’t even count. Some of my favorites are “Love in Space” that has a great King’s of Leon kind of guitar riff through out, “Freud” which is a song everyone can probably relate to, and the great ending track “The Movies” is the perfect lullaby love song that leads into a beautiful instrumental piece.

:::::NEXT SHOW::::

Paul Warner and the Whisperers will be playing at Smith’s Olde Bar THURSDAY NIGHT (12/9/10) along with The Bridges and The Kicks. Only $10 for 3 great bands!

You can’t go wrong with a band that is a big fan of greats such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Williams, and Allman Brothers. Atlanta’s own Blackberry Smoke will be playing a hometown show this Saturday (10/2) at Wild Bill’s in Duluth.

This southern rock/country band formed in 2000 and has been bringing energetic live shows to fans ever since. OM(usic)FG - KingBilly

Picture from myspace.com/kingbilly

There aren’t many weekends when I don’t have something to do, but last Friday, the roommate and I were in need of some entertainment. We wound up at Peachtree Tavern and discovered this amazing band from Nashville. It’s rare that I find a band that catches my attention so quickly, but with KingBilly, I was hooked from the first song and was very excited to write about them. We liked them SO much that we took a road trip the next day to see them in Panama City Beach, FL to see them perform at an American Cancer Society benefit. KingBilly is one of those bands you hear and just can’t figure out why they’re not a huge act yet. Everyone needs to be friends with KingBilly.

The band is made up of 5 ridiculously talented musicians who perform a unique blend of country, bluegrass, and rock with harmonies you wouldn’t believe. Donny, Josh, John, Kevin, and Matt put on a live show so energetic and spontaneous you won’t want it to end. Their set includes most of their originals and random cover songs ranging from Sublime to Tom Petty. Have a request? If they don’t know it, they’ll attempt to play it. It’s all about the fans, right? For any given song, you’re not sure who will be singing and who will be playing what instrument, but all the songs have the same great energy.

KingBilly’s band members bring influences from all over the US (North Dakota, Maryland, Arkansas, Florida, and Georgia) to create a sound that represents their love of music. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of their 5 song EP “Surrender,” and it has not left my cd player since (ok, so except for one time when I listened to my Keith Urban cd).

Track 1, “When She Breaks Down,” starts off with the bands’ amazing harmonies, and gets you craving more just in the first 10 seconds. If you’re not moving your head or tapping your feet to this song, you need to get your hearing checked. Track 2, “Surrender,” is their incredible radio ready tune that was created with the help of Richard Marx, yes THAT Richard Marx. We had this song stuck in our head all weekend. Tracks 3 and 5, the ballads “Savannah’s not in Georgia Anymore” and “Angel on my Shoulder,” really showcase lead singer Donny’s great, effortless voice. Track 4, “I Wanna Come Back as Her Beer,” is now my new going out anthem with lyrics like “I haven’t had a drop, but I’m catching me a buzz. Never seen a woman treat a bottle that way, it’s like she’s making love” that make me want to get up and dance.

OM(usic)FG - The Dreaded Marco

picture from band's facebook page

With the upcoming release of their EP “Metrognome,” The Dreaded Marco is ready to take Atlanta by storm! You might not recognize the band name, but they’re definitely no stranger to Atlanta’s music scene. Seven years ago Charlie Sheets and Dixie Duncan were part of Echovalve (Charlie as lead singer, Dixie on bass), but even after leaving that venture they’ve kept in touch and remained active in music with solo music and playing regular gigs.

Years later, the two brainstormed the idea to start a new band, and 5 weeks later they’re in the recording studio creating something different from anything they’ve ever done. Since it was so spur of the moment, they had to bring their ideas to the table to write songs quickly and ended up with a great, unique sound without over-thinking any of their choices. It’s just what came to mind, what sounded right. They don’t put The Dreaded Marco in any specific genre, so they’re able to appeal to a wide range of listeners. Some of their influences include: Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, Smashing Pumpkins, and Coheed and Cambria.

They created “Marco” as a character, and made up a back story to go along with him to help write the lyrics. With each different feel of a song, they would try to think of what “Marco” would have to say about it. Front man Charlie Sheets describes the song “Frank N Stein” as being a “sympathy piece for Frank N Stein’s monster.” He says “I mean imagine your mind waking up in some hodge podge monster body after you’d died…everyone you know and love is appalled by you because you’re an atrocity…. Hell, I’d burn the f**kin city down, too!"

Having a lot of freedom on this EP helped them realize just what they liked about music, playing for fun, but also being original. You can hear their personalities coming through on all the tracks, and they’ve all definitely got a great danceable beat. With catchy lyrics and beats in each song, The Dreaded Marco keeps you craving the next song. Charlie says that the “swing” in his writing is what’s most important. He wants to create danceable music with a great beat so you’re moving along to all the songs, even the heavier music.

The first track “Strikes Again” off the EP is available now on YouTube, and the rest of the HIGHLY ANTICIPATED EP will be available 8.25.10 on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon.com and Napster. **They’re playing at Lenny’s on Friday, September 24th.** Get your rock fists ready!

Adelitas Way @ Masquerade (Atlanta) - July 6, 2010

photo from myspace.com/adelitasway

Las Vegas band Adelitas Way formed in 2005 and has been cranking out the hard rock tunes ever since. Lead singer Rick DeJesus puts his emotions and true situations into all the songs he writes. The band teamed up with Grammy-nominated producer Johnny K (Disturbed, Plain White T's, 3 Doors Down) for their self-titled debut album. “Last Stand” was released by Virgin Records on July 14, 2009, and has been steadily drawing in new fans. The first two singles off the record “Invincible” and “Last Stand” have been getting radio airplay across the U.S. and establishing Adelitas Way as a household name.

Since February 2009, Adelitas Way has been touring constantly. They've opened for bands such as Theory of a Deadman, Three Days Grace, Shinedown, and Puddle of Mudd. Currently, they are on tour with Halestorm and will be in ATLANTA TOMORROW NIGHT AT MASQUERADE! I had the pleasure of seeing Adelitas Way on Halloween last year, and it was a show I will never forget. The live show is even more intense than the CD. Their album hasn't left my car's CD player in several months!

Tickets for tomorrow's show are $13/adv, doors at 6:00pm. There are 4 bands on the line-up tomorrow night: New Medicine, Since October, Adelita's Way, Halestorm. DON'T MISS THIS SHOW! Check out the video below of their latest single.

100 Monkeys invade Atlanta - 4/26/10 The Earl

Picture from myspace.com/these100monkeys

Watch out Atlanta! Here comes 100 Monkeys!

Ben Graupner (Ben G.), Ben Johnson (Ben J.), Jackson Rathbone (J. Action), Jerad Anderson (J. Rad), and Uncle Larry (Uncle) are coming all the way from Los Angeles to show Atlanta what they’re made of. Come out Monday to The Earl in East Atlanta to show these guys how awesome Atlanta is.

They bring a play list that has a great combination of slow and fast alt rock songs with a gritty Doors-like sound. Need an updated comparison? Take a little flavor from Spoon, Arctic Monkeys, Neutral Milk Hotel, and The Strokes, mix it all together, and you’ve got the unique sound of 100 Monkeys. (And yes, I know Neutral Milk Hotel isn’t really THAT recent.)

They released their first studio album “Grape” in November 2009 with an amazing 12 tracks. Some of my favorites so far are “Clippity Clop,” “Orson Brawl,” and “Sleeping Giants” (see video below).  You can listen to a lot of their songs on their website http://www.100monkeysmusic.com/

One of their older songs I like that isn’t on this album is “Ugly Girl.” (see hilarious video below)

Oh, does that one guy look familiar? Yeah, IF you recognized him without the curly blonde hair, it’s Jasper from the Twilight series. Even if you aren’t a Twilight fan, you have to come out Monday because I know you already love the music and personality of this awesome band!

Doors are at 8:30PM, tickets are $13 adv/$15 at the door, and it’s a 21+ show, so you don’t have to worry about squealing 15 year old “Twi-hards.” You can stand up there and say “J. Action, I appreciate you because of your awesome music, not because you sparkle.”

Also on the bill is Atlanta’s own Noel Stephen & the Darlings. You can check them out on Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/noelstephen

Get all the juicy info on The Earl at http://www.badearl.com/

Hope to see you there!

Ingram Hill @ Smith's Olde Bar - 4/21

While working towards the release of their 4th full length album, Ingram Hill is hitting ATL for a show at Smith's Olde Bar on Wednesday (4/21).  The band hails from Memphis, TN, but have toured all over the US and have shared the stage with many great bands such as Sister Hazel, Hanson (oh yeah!), Better Than Ezra, Stroke 9, Jonny Lang, Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, Cowboy Mouth, and many more!

Lead singer Justin Moore (no, not the country singer) describes the band as "pop rock with a Southern twist."  The lyrics are not raucous/raunchy like typical "Southern rock" songs, but the music and live show are definitely entertaining!  The band has come a long way since the release of their debut EP in 2002 and are really looking forward to their 2010 album release.

Come out tomorrow night to hear some songs from their new cd and just have a toe tappin', booty shakin' good time! I've been seeing these guys for a little over 8 years now, and I have had a blast at every single show I have been to!  EARLY SHOW! Doors are at 8PM, tickets are $12 adv/$15 at door, and of course Smith's is a 21+ venue.  We hope to see you there!

Sometimes with Axl Rose, all you need is just a little patience.

http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/01/14/guns-n-roses-bring-chinese-democracy-to-north-america-with-marathon-winnipeg-gig/

"Other times, you need a little more than a little. Guns n’ Roses’ Wednesday night concert in Winnipeg, Canada — their first North American date (and fifth show overall) since the release of Chinese Democracy in 2008 — was, thankfully, a case of the former. The gigantic three-runway black stage and high-tech production — which included all the requisite video screens, moving light trusses, pyro, percussion bombs and confetti cannons — also commanded plenty of attention. But not enough to overshadow Rose’s and co.’s triumphant return to North America. Now, you just have to wait for them to make it to the States. All you need is just a little … well, you know."

Set List:
“Chinese Democracy”

“Welcome to the Jungle”
“It’s So Easy”
“Mr. Brownstone”
“Shackler’s Revenge”
Richard Fortus Spotlight
“Live and Let Die”
“Sorry”
“If the World”
Dizzy Reed Solo
“Street of Dreams”
“Better”
“You Could Be Mine”
DJ Ashba Spotlight
“Sweet Child o’ Mine”
“I.R.S.”
Axl Rose Piano Solo
“November Rain”
“Scraped”
“O Canada” / “Pink Panther” (Bumblefoot Spotlight)
“Out Ta Get Me”
“Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”
“Nightrain”

Encore:
“Madagascar”
“This I Love”
Frank Ferrer Drum Solo
“Rocket Queen”
“My Generation” (Tommy Stinson Spotlight)
“Patience”
“Paradise City”

Sub Cam – "Patience Love"

One of my favorite local bands has blown me away yet AGAIN! Sub Cam just recently released the video for their song called “Patience Love” off their most recent cd “Invisible Lie.”

These guys have come a long way since the first time I saw them. It was 2006, they said it was their second show, and they were all wearing camouflage pants. Maybe it was nerves, or the fact that the crowd was pretty lame that night, but I wasn’t overly impressed.  There was something about them though that made me want to stick around as a fan, and I’m so glad I did. The quality of  their music has gone from your average “garage band” to “why aren’t they on tour with big acts???”

It’s hard to explain just what I love about this band, so I’ll just let you listen. I present you with the new AWESOME video from Sub Cam called “Patience Love” ---

Like what you hear? You’re in luck. They have a show in Atlanta next Friday, Jan. 29th at Masquerade with Gravity Burn, Joan Red, and Stained Angel.

Click on the flyer to go to the Sub Cam Myspace page

You can find both Sub Cam albums on iTunes:
“As Quiet As Your Thoughts” (2008) and “Invisible Lie” (2009)
