Lauren Answers Fan Questions! (Lucky Magazine Tumblr)

http://luckymag.tumblr.com

Lauren Conrad was Lucky Magazine's guest editor on Tumblr this week. She posted pictures and a video, and she also answered many questions from us fans! Below are all the questions she answered this week:

LCdaily asked: Were you nervous to first put paper crown out there into the world

knowing it was a self funded project?

Yes, very! When you venture out on your own with a project like this there is no one else to point a finger at if it doesn’t perform. That being said, I have really enjoyed the freedom it has allowed me in making both business and creative decisions. When it comes down to it, this is really a passion project. I’m able to do something I love with people I love and I feel so fortunate. If people respond to the line that’s just icing on the cake.

Anonymous asked: What is your favorite casual look for a sunny summer day?
Warm sunny days are my favorite to dress for. I usually opt for something flowy, whether it be a summer dress or a light weight blouse. I am also a fan of cut off denim shorts. Not too short or too tight, just cute and comfortable.

Anonymous asked: What is it like to be considered a role model to some many young girls out there?
Both nerve wracking and flattering. It is such a compliment to be told that you are looked up to, but with that comes responsibility. I have always lived my life the way I wanted and tried not to let others affect my decisions. That said, I do try to be aware of how my choices effect other people. I think it’s all about finding a balance.

Anonymous asked: You have a great figure. Are you a keen healthy eater and exercise girl?
Well thank you! Like any girl I have to work to stay healthy. As I become more and more busy a lot more of my health depends on my diet.I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted (within reason) because I was working out almost everyday. These days that just isn’t a reality for me. Some days I just can’t make it to the gym or find the time to go for a hike. Because of this I have really taken an interest in the food I put into my body. I read books and research the things that I should and should not be eating (there is some scary stuff out there!)So I try my best to eat clean avoiding processed foods or foods with ingredients that I can’t pronounce. I have also grown to love cooking which helps. I buy organic and know exactly what is going into my meals.

Anonymous asked: what's the funniest moment you had with a best friend that makes you laugh just thinking about it?
I had a few candles lit in my room one day when something on my table caught on fire. All of a sudden there were flames in the middle of my room. I yelled for my roommate and we didn’t know what to do so we just started running around screaming. Then I ran to get a towel and wet it to put out the flames. At the same time Maura, my roommate ran to get a pitcher of water. I quickly smothered the fire and just after I had put it out, Maura came running in an threw water all over my room. Luckily nothing was damaged and we laughed for so long afterwards.

gingermax asked: What are your favorite nail polishes for summer?

Last summer was all about brights, but this summer I am gravitating towards muted colors. I am loving colors like soft pinks, mint greens and pale blues. So pretty!

Anonymous asked: How do you decide when to take a fashion risk and when to play it safe?
To be honest I take most of my fashion risks when I know people won’t take note. A night out bar hopping with your girls (dive bars, not clubs) is a perfect night to test drive a new look. On the carpet I tend to play it safe most of the time. The press can be brutal but your friends are much kinder.

Anonymous asked: You said that you like to read/research food & good recipes, what are some good resources to look at?
I get most of my recipes online. One of my favorite sites is www.allrecipes.com. I love any site that has comments and reviews. Others who have already attempted the dish can give you tips or suggestions on what to change.

Anonymous asked: What's the best piece of advice youve ever been given?
My father told me that if you do something you love then you’ll never work a day in your life.

Anonymous asked: What is your advice for young aspiring business women?
My advice is to get as much experience in the industry as possible. Whatever field you are interested in, take every opportunity you can to learn. School is great to teach you fundamentals, but there are limitations to what you can learn from a text book. Internships don’t usually come with a paycheck, but the experience is priceless.

Anonymous asked: What is the sweetest thing a fan has done when they met you? xo
I have so many wonderful stories of amazing things people have done for me. One that stands out is a young lady who has come to multiple signings and makes me these beautiful boxes that hold photos.

josiecovello asked: What is your favorite hair style?
My favorite way to wear my hair is down in loose curls. It’s low maintenance and appropriate for most occasions. See www.thebeautydepartment.com for a tutorial on how I do my everyday curl.

andtheawardgoesto asked: What are three things a girl should have in her wardrobe?
1- A basic black pump

2- A well fitting Little Black Dress

3- A perfect pair of jeans

amusemi asked: Hi Lauren! What are your top 5 staples for the summer?
1- Missoni Bikinis

2- White Camisole Top

3- Cutoff Jean Shorts

4- Striped Sweater

5- Paper Crown Floral Dress

plovesyouu asked: What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite thing about my jobs is I get to see my thoughts and ideas develop into something tangible. Whether it is a silk dress or a hard cover book. I have the opportunity to dream something up one day and see someone walking down the street wearing it another. It really is a gratifying feeling.

somuchmusicwoundedme asked: When it comes to skincare during the summer, what do you do to keep your skin healthy?
Nothing too crazy. I wear sunscreen under my make up year round, but I am definitely a bit more cautious during long summer days. I also make a point to moisturize more.

Anonymous asked: What is your best personal style advice?
Don’t let trends dictate what you buy. Cater them to your personal style. It’s important to be an individual and look good while doing it. Put your own twist on trends and don’t be afraid to skip the ones that simply aren’t for you.

cllaireee asked: What's your favorite trend of this season?
My favorite trend right now is this romantic 70’s vibe. Belled denim over chunky heels makes legs look a mile long and I love all the soft pretty blouses. The vintage florals and pretty color palettes are taking over my summer wardrobe.

Anonymous asked: I love your style! Who are your favorite shoe designers?
Thanks! I would say most of my shoes are Christian Louboutin, Miu Miu, or YSL. I prefer a higher heel with a hidden platform for comfort and all three have mastered it. When I am looking for a deal on cute shoes I look to Topshop or Aldo.

Anonymous asked: What's the best vacation you've ever been on?

My favorite vacation I have ever been on was to Bali in Indonesia. I went for two weeks and stayed in lots of different places there. It was such a different type of trip for me. I saw things I had never seen before and did things I had never done. I really felt like I was being exposed to something new. It was so beautiful and peaceful. I can’t wait to go back.

Anonymous asked: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Happy :-) I stopped trying to predict what would happen next a while ago, but my hope is that I will be loved and doing something that makes me happy.

Lauren Conrad's Canceled Show Was A Blessing

http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/articles/41612-lauren-conrad-canceled-mtv-show-is-a-blessing-in-disguise/1306970331_lauren-conrad-290.jpgThough MTV scrapped plans for a new reality show focused on Lauren Conrad's clothing line in February, the Paper Crown designer says she doesn't miss having the cameras follow her every move.

"I never wanted to end up in entertainment; that wasn't the goal," Conrad, 25, tells Lucky's July issue. "I was doing the show to end up in fashion. But I'm totally aware that without The Hills, I wouldn't be where I am."

After MTV rejected her pilot, Conrad blasted the network, claiming the "subject matter was too high brow for their audience."

"It didn't feel like a perfect fit," she tells the mag. "It's difficult to compete with all the Jersey Shore-type shows out there. Besides, there weren't any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what's the point?"

After all, Conrad (who rose to fame on Laguna Beach in 2004) says her business is thriving without the network's help.

"It's easier to launch the line without MTV," she says. "A lot of people in fashion don't want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV," she explains. "Showrooms were turning us down."

Lauren Conrad's Amazing Hair, An Oral History

Whether she's channeling red carpet glamour or laid-back Cali cool, Lauren Conrad has hair that's always on point. Here, she takes a look back at some of her greatest hits.

"I think whether to go up or down is probably the biggest question. For me, it just depends on how much skin I'm showing on top. I usually don't wear anything strapless with my hair up, but this was an exception. It has a few pieces falling softly."

At the Emmy awards, September, 2008

"I normally don't wear my hair back too tightly because I have a thing about my ears. I almost never show my ears! I mean, there's nothing wrong with them, I just always hide them."

At her fashion line launch for Kohl's, October, 2009

"I do switch up my part; here it's on the side. If I am wearing my hair down, I usually just lightly curl it without product and it falls throughout the day."
At her book signing for Sweet Little Lies, February, 2010

"This is the only picture where I did my own hair. It's my bird's nest. It's the easiest hairstyle to do. You pull your hair back tight into a ponytail high on your head, tease the ponytail, and then wrap it around the base. It's pretty simple."

At My Studio nightclub, August, 2010

"When I had ombre hair it looked a lot darker when I wore it up—all the light pieces were tucked up into the bun. It's almost fading here, like the style itself, I guess. It's basically a grown-out ombre."

At VH1's Save the Music Foundation gala, November, 2010

"I use a curling iron with a quarter-inch barrel—sometimes it varies depending on the length of my hair. I use Moroccanoil and a soy leave-in protein spray that I spritz on daily like hairspray."

Lauren Conrad's Summer Style Essentials

Lucky went behind the scenes at Lauren Conrad's cover shoot to find out what keeps the quintessential L.A. girl looking so gloriously sun-kissed and Califorina chic. From her must-have hair-prep product to versatile everyday basics (cutoff denim shorts, pretty white camisole), the former reality star and current Paper Crown designer spilled her secrets. Best of all, other than a splurge-worthy Missoni bikini, none of her picks will bust your budget.

Missoni bikini: "I love the way Missoni bikinis fit. They are definitely a favorite."

For a stripy Missoni suit similar to Lauren's, try this option.

LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's shoes: "I love this platform from my Kohl's line. It is the perfect shoe to wear with a '70s flare jean."

Kohl's carries six summery shoes from Lauren's line.
White Camisole Top: "I love easy silk camis for layering in the summer. One like this can be dressed up or down." For a breezy white cami like Lauren's, try this.

Cutoff Denim Shorts: "While the fit changes throughout the years, denim cutoffs will always be summer staple for me. This year I prefer a looser fit with a slightly higher waist." For a similar look, try this pair of comfy cutoffs.

Striped sweater: "I wear sweaters year-round, and when the weather gets warmer, I opt for an open knit like this one. I also like the nautical feel of the navy and white stripe." Get a similar cropped sweater here.

Paper Crown floral dress: "This is one of my favorite dresses in the Paper Crown line. I love the way it moves." Get it (available in July) at a store near you.

Nars Body Glow: "This gives your skin a beautiful sheen. I apply it to my legs before venturing out in a mini."

Moroccan Oil: "I work this through the ends of my hair before blowdrying. It smoothes my hair without weighing it down."

Josie Maran Protect 40+ SPF: "I wear this under my makeup to protect my skin."

RGB nailpolish in Punch: "I love this pretty pink for summer."

Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm: " I always carry flavored balms in my bag. I prefer them over a sticky gloss, especially in the summer time."

Lucky Magazine July 2011: Lauren Conrad

Lucky's July cover girl and MTV alum Lauren Conrad is not your average reality star. Despite the fame and financial success brought by her hit show, The Hills, Conrad stepped away from the cameras in 2009 to pursue a career she was really passionate about: designing.

The latest additions to Conrad's resume are decidedly more behind-the-scenes than her media-frenzied beginnings--a line of affordable clothing with mass retailer Kohl's, two best-selling novels based on her experiences and, most recently, Paper Crown--a self-funded collection of soft, flowy pieces set to launch in July. From LC's fashion obsessions to her favorite hairstyles of all time, we've got the scoop on, well, pretty much everything you've ever wanted to know about the star.

Lauren Conrad pairs a Paper Crown blazer, tank, and leather shorts with Christian Louboutin shoes on the cover of Lucky magazine’s July 2011 issue, on newsstands Friday (June 10).

Here’s what the 25-year-old fashionista had to share with the mag:

On launching her new line, Paper Crown, without the help of MTV: “It’s easier to launch the line without MTV. A lot of people in fashion don’t want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down.”

On why MTV deemed her show too “highbrow”: “It didn’t feel like a perfect fit. It’s difficult to compete with all the Jersey Shore-type shows out there. Besides, there weren’t any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what’s the point?”

On why she hates the gym: “I’m just not a fan of the gym. In fact, I hate it. I understand loving the feeling you get after working out - all those endorphins. But going there? It’s the worst.”

On how her eating habits have changed: “I’m now focusing a lot more on my health. I no longer eat pork, I rarely eat beef, and I don’t like chicken now because my mother keeps four hens as pets. I’m not kidding.”

Set to hit newsstands on June 10th, the former "Hills" hottie chatted with the publication about topics such as her new fashion line and keeping up with a healthy lifestyle.

Highlights from Miss Conrad's interview with Lucky are as follows:

On her Paper Crown fashion line launch: “It’s easier to launch the line without MTV. A lot of people in fashion don’t want to be linked with anything that has to do with reality TV. Showrooms were turning us down.”

On MTV pulling the plug on her reality show: “It didn’t feel like a perfect fit. It’s difficult to compete with all the Jersey Shore-type shows out there. Besides, there weren’t any scenes of me getting drunk or fighting, so what’s the point?”

On not being a fan of the gym: “I’m just not a fan of the gym. In fact, I hate it. I understand loving the feeling you get after working out - all those endorphins. But going there? It’s the worst.”
