On Call (GRUM Remix) - Kings Of Leon

Now, I can't say I'm a fan of most of Kings of Leon's stuff. I know they're getting all huge with thier TV commericals, MTV promos and masses of teens rockin out to his warbling vocals. But I fell in love with the heartbreak that was "Because Of The Times" mostly because of 'On Call'. It probably had more to do with the fact that I associated a lot of the Followill brother's lyrics with the relatioship I was in at the time. Yea, we all know how that goes. Anyway, when I noticed that one of my favorite Australian electro producers had taken a shot at remixing one of my favorite heartbroken songs, I had to listen. Take it GRUM.

Audio Sensory Awakening Part 6

Woa! What's up OMFG?! My week has been INSANE. How about you? Did you have a brush with the law? I did. Did you have to bum rides all week because your car is dying and your license was expired? I did. Did you almost die from this badass flu going around? Ya, it wasn't really that bad, but it definitely sucked hard. Anyway, it's time I got back to spreading more aural viruses here.

First of all, for those of you who are lucky enough to be in Atlanta... Thursdays nights are the nights you NEED to be going to Apres Diem by Piedmont Park (next door to Midtown Art Cinema). Every Thursday I lug my tables, mixer, and tons of music into Apres Diem and throw down track after track for 4 hours straight, just for you guys! Starting this week, I'm taking a little more liberty with my selections and breaking out of the 'lounge' box. Of course, this works best when I've got LOTS of people there! So come one, come all... LOVE Thursdays @ Apres Diem w/ P.A.T.T.

One of my first posts for OMFG was a history as well as current event on the Harkiss Bros. Scott Hardkiss, probably the most well-known of the trio, released his LONG awaited artist debut album "Technicolor Dreamer" last month. Scott wrote, produced, arranged, engineered, and self-recorded the entire album in his home studio less than 5 blocks away from Ground Zero in NYC. Like a 21st century P-Funk or Prince's Revolution, Scott is joined by a sexy, diverse band of vocalists and musicians: a musically eclectic, multi-cultural, and poly-sexual group featuring Britta Phillips (Luna/Dean & Britta), Lisa Shaw (Naked Music/Salted), Stevvi Alexander (Nelly Furtado/Gwen Stefani), Steven Bernstein (Lounge Lizards/Tricky), Bobby Harden (Blues Brothers), J Bowman (George Clinton/ Michael Franti), Tabitha Fair (Sting), Ernest Carter (Bruce Springsteen), Alex Moulton and more. The record was mixed by Scott with Jason Marcucci (Gnarls Barkley/Beck) and mastered by Brian Gardner (Outkast/Prince/Timbaland). The result is a fresh and inventive, whimsical dance-pop album. A kaleidoscope of sounds that are sprinkled with themes of stars, transformation, and celebration in the face of darkness, Technicolor Dreamer is a bubbly, groovy retro-futuristic funk ride that every man, woman and child is sure to enjoy. God Within has the full digital album ready for purchase and download as well as the "You're The Star" EP. However, I'm patiently waiting for the Deluxe 2xLP 180 gram vinyl in gatefold package I purchased a month ago to arrive on September 15th...o0o0o0o0o! You better not disappoint me Scott!!

Have you listened to Calvin's new album?!? Ready For The Weekend came out on August 17th in the UK and by August 24th, it made Number 1 on the UK album charts. OMFG has already brought you video of Calvin doin his thang with a gaggle of beautiful musical girls and his "Humanthesizer". Now I thought I'd share a couple of remixes of "I'm Not Alone" I came across. I'm Not Alone - Calvin Harris (Thomas R Remix) is a really nice, easy to mix, well-done-without-being-over-the-top mix which does not feature the vocals, so you could easily throw down an accapella if you wanted. I'm Not Alone - Calvin Harris (deadmau5 Remix) is yet another very well done remix brought to you by the electro progressive production powerhouse that is deadmau5. I love almost everything I've heard from deadmau5. This isn't his best collaboration, but nonetheless a good track.

Ehem, this next track I just have to share because it keeps playing on my iPod and I love it a little more everytime. To Kingdom Come - Passion Pit (GRUM Vocal Mix) Yes, another GRUM track, muahahaha!

Audio Sensory Awakening Part 5

Oooh yeeeaaaa.... (no, im not going to snap into a slim jim)

So I was on hiatus last week due to a very full work schedule plus getting ready for a party last Friday. All went veddy well, thanks for asking! But now I return to my beautiful OMFG bloggers and continue spreading the virus! Part 3 of Angels Carrying Savage Weapons will come in good time, I promise. However, genius needs patience. So for now I bring you more selections from my recent crate digs:

The first two songs here are both from a really kool site rcrdlbl.com go check 'em out.

This is without a doubt the koolest track I've come across the past 2 weeks. Simply because I never thought I'd ever hear an electronica version. Them Jeans (aka Jason Stewart) from L.A. has put together tons of awesome remixes and mashups which you can find floating all over the blogs. I didn't even realize this was going to be a cover of Weezer's "Only In Dreams" until the first measure of the track (I guess the track name isn't a dead giveaway, but I still kicked myself for not picking up on it sooner) Only In Jeans - Them Jeans

CFCF's remix of HEALTH's "Before Tigers" seems to be blowing up on the blogs lately. If you haven't caught on to CFCF yet, be sure to check out his other tracks "You Hear Colors" as well as his remix of The Presets tune "Talk Like That" (super awesome track). He definitely has a softer, airy style that he puts on the tunes he remixes. Hmm, I wonder if that just comes from living in Montreal? Anywayz, check out his latest here: Before Tigers - HEALTH (CFCF Remix)

Both Dani Deahl and Preston Craig seem to be fans of these new remixes of Tiga's "Shoes". I was never really a big Tiga fan, but I will admit that occaisinally he will pull off a remix I really like. Or in this case, a good remix of one of his tracks will find its way into my ear. I came across Bang Gang's mix first on dsquared and I definitely liked it right off the bat. It's heavy, it's dark, it's got rolling electro riffs and solid kicks. Shoes - Tiga (A Bang Gang Hot Shoe Re-Shuffle). However, I have always been a disco fanatic at the core and if that's what you're looking for then shoot over to kissatlanta to find Shoes - Tiga (Beni Remix). Both great tracks and yes, that is Madonna on vocals.

I just glanced through my previous posts so I could reference this next artist, but it seems I haven't mentioned GRUM in anything besides the Angels Carrying Savage Weapons 2 tracklist. Shame on me. I think I came across GRUM first when I heard last year's LeCastleVania mix of Go Back. I still love that track. And then when I heard Ironical Sexism by Revolte (GRUM Remix) (seen here with pedobear dancing for an unofficial video). I knew I really liked GRUM's taste. He brings it again with his new track Woah - GRUM (Digitalfoxglove Remix), which is on ACSW2. But this latest find from discodust comes with a lot more of an electro disco sound and it's got me hooked right now Miracle - Tommy Sparks (GRUM Remix).

Here's one for the old skool house/hip hop heads.. think you can listen to it one more time? I'll House You - Bryan Cox vs. Jungle Brothers. Thanks for the post dsquared. And speaking of old skool, DJ Smiles slapped this one down @ Disco 2000 last Saturday and totally brought me back. I've got an old disco house ep on vinyl with a shorter version of this, but you just can't go wrong with Disco Juice - Cloud One (Re-Edit). Courtesy of kissatlanta.

Oh, and if you wanna see an awesome video of a badass rubberband gun set to metal, check it. Yes, I know I'm still a dork.
