Sugababes: "It's business as usual"

The Sugababes have insisted it's "business as usual" following news that former member Mutya Buena has won limited rights to their name.

It was reported yesterday that Buena, who left the band in 2005, won the rights to the group's name for a limited number of products, including stationery and gift wrap.

A spokesperson for the band said: "Heidi, Amelle and Jade would like to reassure their fans that it's business as usual for Sugababes.

"Over 4 months ago it was officially confirmed by the European Trade Marks Department that Sugababes were successful in claiming their ongoing right to use the name "Sugababes" for all areas of commercial activity that the band requires, namely within the music, sound recording and entertainment industry, as well as being granted extensive rights to produce a wide range of merchandise."

They added that Buena's category of ownership is an area that "currently holds no commercial interest for the band and, accordingly, the band has no immediate plans to challenge Ms. Buena for these rights."

The Sugababes release their new single 'Freedom' on September 25. Their eighth studio album follows later this year. (Digital Spy)
