[ Before I start I would lke to say I freaking HATE formatting in blogger. I am re-writting this whole thing because as I was trying to align some pictures, which is a bitch to do, all my text got deleted! ]
So after much research (!!) I have zeroed in on SIX trends that have dominated the runways for Spring/Summer 2011. Some I think are great and am really looking forward to and some are a little off, specially cos I don`t think they will translate in the Indian market.
I would like to say that there is no point in following trends blindly. However it`s nice to see things you would`nt have thought of and get inspired by them. For me once I try something I like it doesnt matter if t isnt still in vogue. I rarely try something which is ON trend and is OUTRAGEOUS!
I am going to divide this into two parts. Talk about the trends in one and in another post put some looks together according to the trend.
COLOUR BLOCKING
Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Z Spoke
Peter Som, Karen Walker, Christopher Kane, Rachel Roy.
As Indians we are no strangers of putting JHATAK colours together so I think this will translate really well in the Indian Market. I am looking forward to this cos I.LOVE.COLOUR
By the looks of it they were by Manish Malhotra. He does do the whole colour blocking thing well.

Since the ANARKALI trend has gripped the bollywood ladies by the throat, you can see colour blocking happening there as well.
How is any discussions on ANARKALIS complete without their BRAND AMBASSADOR MRS. Jr. Bachan.
Even though I really like the Anarkali I am so tired of someone wearing them everyday. I think the color blocking has reached its saturation point in Indian clothes even before the trend came down the runway in the west.
Now the B-town ladies need to try this out in their dresses etc. The younger actresses I think would ace this trend in western wear!
THAT 70`s SHOW
Marc by Marc Jacobs, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, and Tory Burch.
Even though I am addicted to my skinny jeans I am really liking these broad pants and jeans. I would love to see Malaika Arora Khan to ditch her gowns (which she rocks anyway) and wear something like the first three looks. I think it would be extremely flattering on her.
Pajama Party?
lounge wear-inspired trend at Karen Walker, Vena Cava, Thakoon, and Ralph Lauren.
GOING LONG
Diane von Furstenberg, Jil Sander; Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein Collection.
Again A trend I am not too sure of. Maybe cos I particularly don`t like long skirts ( a story about that on part II of this post! ) but I have to admit I do like this on other people. I mean in pictures at least it does look nice. But I dunno how many of our celebs would like to experiment with this look.
3.1 Philip Lim, Richard Chai Love, Yigal Azrouël, Rag & Bone.
Now I know THIS trend is not going to go down well with most Indian and our celebs. Minimalism is one gene that Indians DO not have.
I personally like this trend and the NUDES colours that come with it and would love to see some celebs try it.
PRINT ON PRINT
Burberry Prorsum, Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, Prada.
In the next post I have lots of tips on how to wear prints on prints the right way!
An easy inspiration can be Blair on Gossip Girl
Do tell me your take on these trends, which one you love, like and loathe : )
