Lauren Conrad: on LA Candy, Stephanie's Dui and Life after 'The Hills'

Lauren Conrad claims she was simply kidding when she recently stated that friend Lauren "Lo" Bosworth should star in the film adaptation of her best-selling book "L.A. Candy."

"I jokingly said, 'Oh, Lo is going to star in it,'" Conrad told Us Weekly on Tuesday. "People reported that Lo was going to star in the movie, and I was totally kidding!"

Late last month, Temple Hill Entertainment acquired the screen rights to "L.A. Candy" -- Conrad's debut novel that was released in June and subsequently topped The New York Times Best Seller list in July.

Temple Hill partners Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will produce the film, with Conrad serving as executive producer through her Blue Eyed Girl production company.

"It's my new hat," Conrad told Us about being an executive producer. "I like hats, and I get to wear lots of them!"

Conrad -- who inked a deal with HarperCollins Publishers for a three-book young adult fiction series last September -- added she never imagined her first novel would wind up on the big screen.

"I was just hoping that the book did well," she told Us. "It's a little surreal, but it's cool!"

New The Hills fifth-season episodes are currently airing on MTV sans Conrad, who announced she was leaving the show to focus on other business endeavors earlier this year.

She told Us that life without The Hills is "nice."

"I'm a different kind of busy. I have more stress and deadlines at work than I do in my personal life," she told Us, adding she "barely watched it" when she was on it and hasn't watched any of the new episodes.

Conrad is currently working on the third book for HarperCollins and put the kibosh on the idea that she'll return to reality television for a show focused on her personal life.

"I closed that door," she told Us before coyly adding a return to reality television isn't completely out of the question.

"We have been talking about some different stuff that's more fashion-related, so we'll see."

In addition, Conrad also addressed the weekend arrest of The Hills star Stephanie Pratt for suspicion of drunk driving.

"I just sent her well wishes," Conrad told Us. "She is doing fine."
